Merciful and loving God, giver and sustainer of life, we thank you for your fidelity to your people.

As a people of faith, we remember the exodus from biblical times and acknowledge our own exodus experience and our need for justice and peace.

We come before you to pray for those who live and die from poverty, marginalization, mutilations, and castrations of our days.

As a people of faith, we remember your prophetic word and acknowledge our own racism, the result of a deep-seated experience of greed and abuse of power over others and over much of your creation.

We come before you in the hope that your Spirit will strengthen us by calling us to new life and empowering us to fight injustice.

As a people of faith from marginalized communities, we join the many voices that cry out for Shalom and fight against the powers and principalities that threaten the life and fulfillment of your community. Grant us courage and wisdom to be your people in a new reality. Amen.

Reading

“To the Wind of the Spirit” by Pedro Casaldaliga

Read by Diana Mejia – Co-Director and Founder of Wind of the Spirit

To the Wind of the Spirit
Al Viento de su Espíritu
That blows everywhere,
Que sopla por todas partes
Free and making others free
Libre, haciendo otros libres,
Free and bringing Liberation,
Libre trayendo liberación,
Victorious over the Law,
Victorioso por encima de la ley,
And over Sin and Death.
por encima del pecado y la muerte.

To the Wind of the Spirit
Al Viento de su Espíritu
That swept into Jesus
Que “sumerge” en Jesús
And sent him to the poor
enviándolo a los pobres
To announce good news for them
para anunciarles su Buena Nueva
And freedom for the captives.
y la libertad a los cautivos.

To the Wind of the Spirit
Al Viento de su Espíritu
That worked on Pentecost
que trabaja en pentecostés
Removing prejudice and interests
removiendo prejuicios e intereses
And fear away from the Apostles,
y quitando el miedo de los apóstoles,
Opening wide the doors of the cenacle
abriendo ampliamente las puestas del cenáculo
So that the community of Jesus’ followers
para que la comunidad de Jesus florecida,
Could always be open to the world
siempre pueda estar abierta al mundo
Free in their word,
libre en su palabra,
Coherent in their witness,
coherente en su testimonio,
Unbeatable in their hope.
Invencible en su esperanza.

To the Wind of the Spirit
Al Viento de su Espíritu
That always sweeps away fears from the Church
And sets all powers on fire
Except the power for fraternal service
Excepto el poder fraternal del servicio,
And purifies the church through poverty and martyrdom.

To the Wind of the Spirit
Al Viento de su Espíritu
That brings arrogance, hypocrisy and lust to ashes.
And feeds the flames of justice and liberation
And makes the soul of the Kingdom.
haciendo el alma del Reino
So that we are Wind in the Wind, sisters and brothers.

Prayer of the Day

Led by Leah Wandera, Drew Student Immigrant

Adapted from a prayer by Reverend Elenora Giddings Ivory

God of our lives, help us to find ways to break the silence that perpetuates the cycles of sexual abuse and violence in our families and in our communities and religious institutions. Help us break that silence when we see the evidence of the abuse of the beautiful gift of sexuality you have given us. Help us break that silence when we see this abuse throughout the world – forced sterilizations and forced abortions.

Give us the courage to speak out and break the silence that surrounds the abuse of your gift of sexuality in the name of culture – genital mutilation, rape and incest.

Help us find the voice of our outrage and denounce the violence against women and girls in the name of war and ethnic cleansing.

God, we know that you do not want us to misuse this beautiful gift of sexuality you have given us. Let us be loving and faithful to one another. We know that you would have us speak the truth to ourselves and to one another. Let us speak that truth lovingly and faithfully so that the secrets will no longer have power over generation after generation.

But most of all, God, let us be loving and faithful and supportive of the children we bring into this world.

Amen.

Blessing

Sending Song

“Que No Caiga La Fe” by Escenario Rodriguez, Venezuela

Led by Claudia M. Sydenstricker, Brendan Fox, and Yefer Blancas

CORO
