Gathering Music

Bless the Lord My Soul

Bless the Lord my soul
And bless God’s holy name.
Bless the Lord my soul
Who leads me into life.

Call to Worship

One: O God, our Guide and Guardian, you have led us apart from the busy world into the quiet of your house.
Many: Grant us grace to worship you in Spirit and in truth, to the comfort of our souls and the up-building of every good purpose and holy desire.
One: Enable us to do more perfectly the work to which you have called us, that we may not fear the coming of night, when we shall resign in to your hands the tasks which you have committed to us.
Many: So may we worship you not with our lips at this hour, but in word and deed all the days of our lives; through Christ who modeled wisdom and faithfulness. Amen.

Psalter

Psalm 91 & Sung Refrain

Refrain: I will trust; I will trust; I will trust in you.

Living in the Most High’s shelter,
Camping in the Almighty’s shade,
I say to the Lord,
“You are my refuge, my stronghold!
You are my God–the one I trust!”
God will save you from the hunter’s trap
And from deadly sickness.
God will protect you with God’s pinions;
You’ll find refuge under God’s wings.
God’s faithfulness is a protective shield.

Refrain: I will trust; I will trust; I will trust in you.

Don’t be afraid of terrors at night,
Arrows that fly in daylight,
Or sickness that prowls in the dark,
Destruction ravages at noontime.

Even if one thousand people fall dead next to you,
Ten thousand right beside you–
It won’t happen to you.
Just look with your eyes,
And you will see the wicked punished.
Because you’ve made the Lord your refuge,
The Most High, your place of residence–
No evil will happen to you;
No disease will come close to your tent.

Refrain: I will trust; I will trust; I will trust in you.

Because God will order messengers to help you,
To protect you wherever you go.
They will carry you with their own hands
So you don’t bruise your foot on a stone.
You’ll march on top of lions and vipers;
You’ll trample young lions and serpents underfoot.

God says, “Because you are devoted to me, I’ll rescue you.
I’ll protect you because you know my name.
Whenever you cry out to me, I’ll answer.
I’ll be with you in troubling times.
I’ll save you and glorify you.
I’ll fill you full with old age.
I’ll show you my salvation.

Refrain: I will trust; I will trust; I will trust in you. (2x)

Scripture

Luke 15:1-10

Now all the tax collectors and sinners were coming near to listen to him. And the Pharisees and the scribes were grumbling and saying, “This fellow welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

So he told them this parable:

“Which one of you, having a hundred sheep and losing one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the one that is lost until he finds it? When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders and rejoices. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’ Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. “Or what woman having ten silver coins, if she loses one of them, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.’ Just so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

The word of God for the people of God.
Thanks be to God.

Prayers of the People

Response to petitions:

Lord in your mercy…
Hear our prayer.

Table Liturgy

The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Blessed are you, our Alpha and our Omega, whose strong and loving arms encompass the universe, for with your eternal Word and Holy Spirit you are forever one God. Through your Word you created all things and called them good, and in you we live and move and have our being. When we fell into sin, you did not desert us. You made covenant with your people Israel and spoke through prophets and teachers. In Jesus Christ your Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth.

And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Holy are you, and blessed is Jesus Christ, who called you Abba. As a parent tenderly gathers their children, you embraced a people as your own and filled them with a longing for a peace that would last and for a justice that would never fail. In Jesus’ suffering and death you took upon yourself our sin and death and destroyed their power for ever. You raised from the dead this same Jesus, who now reigns with you in glory, and poured upon us your Holy Spirit, making us the people of your new covenant.

On the night before meeting with death, Jesus took bread, gave thanks to you, broke the bread, gave it to the disciples, and said: “Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

When the supper was over Jesus took the cup, gave thanks to you, gave it to the disciples, and said: “Drink from this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it in remembrance of me.”

And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving, as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ’s offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith.

Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again. Hosanna in the Highest.

Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here, and on these gifts, that in the breaking of this bread and the drinking of this wine we may know the presence of the living Christ and be renewed as the body of Christ for the world, redeemed by Christ’s blood.

As the grain and grapes, once dispersed in the fields, are now united on this table in bread and wine, so may we and all your people be gathered from every time and place into the unity of your eternal household and feast at your table forever. Through Christ, with Christ, in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, almighty and loving God, now and forever.

Amen. Hosanna in the Highest

And now with the confidence of the children of God, let us pray the prayer that Christ taught us:

Our God who art in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
