Call to Worship

(adapted from Rev. MaryAnn Rennie)

David Gaitán

Leader: This place for us is Holy Ground.
The place where we sing songs of praise,
and repeat the stories of faith
that inspires us to respond to God’s love, embodied in Jesus.
God called us here,
in whispering winds and in burning flames,
and with God’s presence,
God disarms us of the barriers we have placed around us.
Instead God meets us in our vulnerability,
our humanity.
Let us worship the Lord.
All: Amen.

Opening Song

“When the Poor Ones” – J.A. Olivar and Miguel Manzano, trans. Martin Seltz

When the poor ones, who have nothing, still are giving;
When the thirsty pass the cup, water to share;
When the wounded offer others, strength and healing:

Refrain:

Va Dios mismo en nuestro mismo caminar.
Va Dios mismo en nuestro mismo caminar.

When compassion gives the suffering consolation;
When expecting brings to birth hope that was lost;
When we choose love, not the hatred all around us: (refrain)

Scripture Reading – Exodus 3:1-6

Melissa McHenry

1 Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian; he led his flock beyond the wilderness and came to Mount Horeb,[a] the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of a bush; he looked, and the bush was blazing, yet it was not consumed. 3 Then Moses said, “I must turn aside and look at this great sight and see why the bush is not burned up.” 4 When the Lord saw that he had turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” 5 Then God said, “Come no closer! Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” 6 God said further, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.

Blessing

Jene Lee

God watches over us day and night.

So, sleep well tonight.
God guards the day
when your beloveds work and live.

So live more fully today in the daytime.
God keeps the night
when your beloveds sleep.
