“Cuando El Pobre” UMH #434
Call to Worship
Leader: It is not true that this world and its people are doomed to be lost.
People: It is not true that we must accept cruelty and dehumanizing practices.
Leader: It is not true that violence and hatred and war are inevitable human choices.
People: It is not true that we are simply at the mercy of the powers of evil who seek to rule this world.
Leader: This is true: The time is now that God’s spirit is poured out on all flesh.
All: Our dreams for liberation, justice, and non-violence are meant for this earth and for our history as we worship our loving God in spirit and in truth, in our deeds, words, and attitudes.

Scripture
Isaiah 43:1-2 (NRSV)
1 But now thus says the Lord,
he who created you, O Jacob,
he who formed you, O Israel:
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, you are mine.
2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not consume you.

Matthew 11:28-30 (NRSV)
28 “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
