Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)

Amazing grace
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I’m found
Was blind, but now I see

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

My chains are gone
I’ve been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, Amazing grace

The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures

My chains are gone
I’ve been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, Amazing grace
(x2)

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbear to shine
But God, Who called me here below
Will be forever mine
Will be forever mine
You are forever mine

Call to Worship

One: We lift up our eyes to the hills, from where does our help come?
Many: My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
One: God will not let our feet be moved, the one who keeps you will not slumber
Many: Be with us now, O God, protect and keep us.

“Be With Us” by Brendan Fox

Be with us, Lord. Be with us, Lord.
Be with us, Lord, we pray. x2

If we could see what’s beyond the horizon
Would there still be a reason for faith?
But if it were us in charge of this place
Surely there’d be even more pain.

Be with us, Lord. Be with us, Lord.
Be with us, Lord, we pray. x2

If we all stood humbly together this morning
And looked beyond the walls of this place
We would all see the lonely mountains of justice
Yes, it’s all there, just waiting for grace.

Be with us, Lord. Be with us, Lord.
Be with us, Lord, we pray. x2

There is power in you
There is power in me
There is power in us
And that power sets us free. x4

Be with us, Lord. Be with us, Lord.
Be with us, Lord, we pray. x2

Unison Prayer of the Day

Faithful God, we come into your presence with thanksgiving, deeply grateful for your unfailing love. When we call out to you, you answer. When we find ourselves in trouble, you are there, standing beside us.

And so we come offering you the worship of our hearts and lives. Open our eyes to see and know you here among us; open our ears to recognize your voice. In your many great and holy names we pray, amen.

Sung Response

Be with us, Lord. Be with us, Lord.
Be with us, Lord, we pray.

Be with us, Lord. Be with us, Lord.
Be with us, Lord, today.

Reading

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 NRSV

9 but the Lord said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” So, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities for the sake of Christ; for whenever I am weak, then I am strong.

“Gifting My Weaknesses to Christ”

Sung Response

“Trading My Sorrow”

I’m trading my sorrow
I’m trading my shame
I’m laying it down for the joy of the Lord

I’m trading my sickness
I’m trading my pain
I’m laying it down for the joy of the Lord

And we say yes Lord yes Lord yes yes Lord
Yes Lord yes Lord yes yes Lord
Yes Lord yes Lord yes yes Lord Amen

I’m pressed but not crushed persecuted not abandoned
Struck down but not destroyed
I’m blessed beyond the curse for his promise will endure
And his joy’s gonna be my strength

Though the sorrow may last for the night
His joy comes with the morning

Blessing
