Gathering Music

“We Have Come Too Far” by June Jordan

We have come too far
We can’t turn ‘round
We’ll flood the streets with justice
We are freedom bound.

Call to Prayer

1 Samuel 2:1-10

2:1 Hannah prayed and said, “My heart exults in the LORD; my strength is exalted in my God. My mouth derides my enemies, because I rejoice in my victory.

2:2 “There is no Holy One like the LORD, no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.

2:3 Talk no more so very proudly, let not arrogance come from your mouth; for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by God actions are weighed.

2:4 The bows of the mighty are broken, but the feeble gird on strength.

2:5 Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, but those who were hungry are fat with spoil. The barren has borne seven, but she who has many children is forlorn.

2:6 The LORD kills and brings to life; God brings down to Sheol and raises up.

2:7 The LORD makes poor and makes rich; God brings low, but also exalts.

2:8 God raises up the poor from the dust; lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with princes and inherit a seat of honor. For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, and on them has set the world.

2:9 “God will guard the feet of his faithful ones, but the wicked shall be cut off in darkness; for not by might does one prevail.

2:10 The LORD! The adversaries shall be shattered; the Most High will thunder in heaven. The LORD will judge the ends of the earth;God will give strength to the Sovereign, and exalt the power of God’s anointed.”

Passing of the Peace

Reach out and touch somebody’s soul
Make this world a better place, make it whole

Communion Prayer

When we are called together to receive God’s blessing
We are accepting God’s Grace into our lives.
When we surrender to the Divine,
we are receiving all the qualities of the Divine;
Peace, Forgiveness, Compassion, Wisdom, Love…
Together as a community we ask the Divine
to bless this bread and wine and make it Holy
so that we and all creation may receive God’s blessing.

In an upper room gathered around friends
Jesus took bread, blessed it, broke it and gave it saying,
“Take and eat, this is my body given for you. Do this in
remembrance of me.”
In the same way after the meal he took the cup, blessed it and said,
“This is my blood, poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins.
Do this in remembrance of me.”
Our thoughts become words, our words become deeds,
our deeds define who we are as individuals and as a world.
In one, in unity with God, we are called forth to receive God’s love

Remembering the words of the Rule-breaker, trouble-maker,
Justice Bringer, Love-Bearer let us pray as Jesus taught us, singing,

Our God in heaven
Holy is your name
Your reign come, Your will done
on earth as in heaven

Give us today, our daily bread
and help us forgive as we have been forgiven

In the time of trial
lead us into life
for yours is the Kindom
and the power and the glory

Music During Communion

“Let Us Break Bread Together On Our Knees”

“Peace Song” by Mark Miller

Peace in our lives, peace
Peace in our world, peace
Peace in our hearts, peace, peace
Peace in our hearts, peace, peace

It does not mean to be in a place
Where there is no noise,
no trouble or hard work
It means to be in the midst
And still be calm in your heart
And still have peace in your heart
