Leader: We gather today in the spirit of Ubuntu — I am because we are.
In this house, no one stands alone, and every voice has a place.
People: We come as a community, carrying one another in faith and in hope.
Leader: When the friends of the paralyzed man could not reach Jesus,
They lifted him together, broke through barriers, and laid him before Love.
People: So we come, lifting one another before God,
trusting that healing comes through the power of shared faith.
Leader: In Terranga, we welcome one another with open hearts and open hands,
for Christ welcomes all the weary, the wounded, the wondering.
People: We come with gratitude and expectation as AfriSCaD, as Drew community, and the world at large believing that in Christ, forgiveness and restoration meet.
Leader: The Healer is here. The Forgiver is among us. The Spirit is alive in this place.
All: Let us worship the Living God
who heals bodies, restores communities, and calls us to carry one another in love.

Gracious and Living God of Ubuntu and Terranga,
you who call us into community, into shared life and shared hope
We gather in your presence knowing that we are because you are, and we are because we are together.
As you welcomed the friends who carried their paralysed companion to you,
so we bring before you those who are weighed down by illness, by isolation, by fear, by brokenness.
Heal what is wounded in body and soul; restore what is fractured in community and in trust.
We remember all nations, especially those currently in crisis: in Africa, and all over the world, Cameroun, Congo, Rwanda, Jamaica, Palestine, Sudan, Tanzania, we ask for PEACE in the place of Wars, Restoration in the place of Disaster and LOVE in the place of Hate, we asked all these in Christ’s able name AMEN.

Jesus Heals a Paralytic (NRSVUE)

1 When he returned to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was at home. 2 So many gathered around that there was no longer room for them, not even in front of the door, and he was speaking the word to them. 3 Then some people came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. 4 And when they could not bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and after having dug through it, they let down the mat on which the paralytic lay. 5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Child, your sins are forgiven.” 6 Now some of the scribes were sitting there questioning in their hearts, 7 “Why does this fellow speak in this way? It is blasphemy! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” 8 At once Jesus perceived in his spirit that they were discussing these questions among themselves, and he said to them, “Why do you raise such questions in your hearts? 9 Which is easier: to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Stand up and take your mat and walk’? 10 But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins” he said to the paralytic 11 “I say to you, stand up, take your mat, and go to your home.” 12 And he stood up and immediately took the mat and went out before all of them, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”
