A QUEER MAGNIFICAT, adapted from George A. Chien
Leader: My soul magnifies the Just and Gentle One,
People: and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
Leader: for God has looked with favor on a servant who was called unworthy, unclean, a stumbling block, a source of scandal and a cause for division.
People: Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is God’s name.
Leader: Divine mercy is for those who honor God
People: in all God’s diverse ways of love and loving from generation to generation.
Leader: God strength is shown in patient, persistent, prayerful witness;
People: God has honored the pride of those who are overcoming bigotry and self-hatred;
Leader: and has confounded those arrogantly certain about the thoughts of their hearts by opening the Divine Embrace to friends and foes alike.
People: God has cast down the mighty and will do so forever in defense of the lowly.
Leader: God has lifted up the lowly and sought retribution on those that persecute them.
People: God has filled the hungry with good things and has sent away the Rich, the Fascists, the Capitalists, the White Supremacists, the Transphobes and all whose greed and lust for power has caused the poor to go hungry.
Leader: In God and Through God, all fixed categories of identity are broken and made new in God’s Word. God would break every and any boundary just to Love us in every way possible.
People: God has helped Transgender, Non-Binary, and Queer people and created them to bear the divine image beyond the confines of conventions, dogmas, laws, and borders.
Leader: in remembrance of Divine mercy, according to the promise made to our ancestors, to the eunuch and the barren one and to their descendants forever.
Opening Hymn
“Christ Upon the Mountain Peak” – Words: Brian Wren
Jesus on the mountain peak
stands alone in glory blazing;
let us, if we dare to speak,
join the saints and angels praising.
Alleluia!
Trembling at his feet we saw
Moses and Elijah speaking.
All the prophets and the law
shout through them their joyful greeting:
Alleluia!
Swift the cloud of glory came,
God proclaiming, in its thunder
Jesus as the Son by name!
Nations, cry aloud in wonder:
Alleluia!
This is God’s beloved Son!
Law and prophets fade before him;
First and last and only One,
Let creation now adore him!
Alleluia!
Opening Prayer
Hawk Ricketts
Leader: O Transfigured God, Through your miraculous Incarnation in your Divine son Jesus Christ, you broke the boundaries of identity just to love us. In your transfiguration, we see God fully revealed in the human face of Jesus Christ. Through the human face of God, we can see the transfigured face of Christ in all humans, in all times, in all places. For the Sake of your Reign in Heaven and Earth, help us to see the transfigured radiance of your divinity in all human faces, especially the faces of our beloved Transgender and Non-Binary family.
All: Amen.
Scripture Readings
Exodus 34:29-35
Cassidy Beckett
Moses came down from Mount Sinai. As he came down from the mountain with the two tablets of the covenant in his hand, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God. When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, the skin of his face was shining, and they were afraid to come near him. But Moses called to them; and Aaron and all the leaders of the congregation returned to him, and Moses spoke with them. Afterward all the Israelites came near, and he gave them in commandment all that the Lord had spoken with him on Mount Sinai. When Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil on his face; but whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with them, he would take the veil off, until he came out; and when he came out, and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, the Israelites would see the face of Moses, that the skin of his face was shining; and Moses would put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with him.
Luke 9:28-36
Cassie Montelongo
Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. They appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”–not knowing what he said. While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!” When the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and in those days told no one any of the things they had seen.

“Transfigure Me” – Words/Music: Christopher Grundy
Transfigure me so that I might me
more like Jesus, more like Jesus
Transfigure me so that I might be
more like Jesus, Jesus my light.
Take me up to the mountain
shine your light down on me
’til the person you have always intended
is the person everybody can see.

The Holy One be with you
And also with you
Open your hearts to the One who is Love
We open our hearts to you, O God
Let us give thanks to God who sets us free
It is our joy to give you thanks!
It is our joy, O God, to express our gratitude for your work in us. You offer to us life abundant, free from needing to conform to the pressures of our world. You wove us together with all of creation that we might be, like you, creators. You set us in the garden to plant, to grow, to help life to flourish. You set a path before us to co-create with you a world where beauty and truth and goodness might thrive.
Glory to you for ever and ever.
At your command all things came to be: the vast expanse of
interstellar space, galaxies, suns, the planets in their courses,
and this fragile earth, our island home.
By your will they were created and have their being.
From the primal elements you brought forth the human race,
and blessed us with beauty, talent, memory, reason, and skill. You made us
the servants of creation. But we turned against you, and betrayed
your trust; and we turned against one another.
Have mercy, Lord, for we are sinners in your sight.
Again and again, you called us to return. Through prophets
and sages you revealed your righteous Law. And in the
fullness of time you sent your only Son, born of a woman, to
fulfill your Law, to open for us the way of freedom and peace.
By his life, he reconciled us.
By his spirit, we are healed.
And therefore we praise you, joining with the heavenly
chorus, with prophets, apostles, and martyrs, and with all
those in every generation who have looked to you in hope, to
proclaim with them your glory, in their unending hymn:
Singing:
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest. Hosanna in the highest. Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest. Hosanna in the highest. Hosanna in the highest.
On the night he was betrayed he took bread, said the
blessing, broke the bread, and gave it to his friends, and
said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do
this for the remembrance of me.”
After supper, he took the cup of wine, gave thanks, and
said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my cup of the new
Covenant, which is poured out for you and for many for the
forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the
remembrance of me.”
Remembering now his work of redemption, and offering to you this
sacrifice of thanksgiving,
We celebrate his death and resurrection,
as we await the day of his coming.

Speaker 3 (Nate Roark): God of St. Simeon Bachus, St. Marinos the Monk, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Julian of Norwich, Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and all your angels, saints, and our ancestors.
Celebrant: O God, we who have been redeemed and
made a new people by water and the Spirit, now bring before
you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be the
Body of Jesus Christ.
Holy God, Open our
eyes to see your hand at work in the world about us. Deliver
us from the presumption of coming to this Table for solace
only, and not for strength; for pardon only, and not for
Renewal. Let the grace of this Holy Communion make us one
body, one spirit in Christ, that we may worthily serve the
world in Christ’s name.
Risen Lord, be known to us in the breaking of the Bread.
Accept these prayers and praises, God, through Jesus
Christ, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit,
your Church gives honor, glory, and worship,
from generation to generation. AMEN.
And now, as our Savior
Christ has taught us,
we are bold to say,
Singing:
Our God, in heaven,
holy is your name,
your reign come, your will done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread,
and help us forgive, as we have been forgiven.
In the time of trial lead us into light,
for yours is the kindom,
and the power, and the glory, forever.
Our God, in heaven,
holy is your name, holy is your name.
Prayer After Communion:
All: God, we give you thanks for this meal that nourishes us, body and soul. May it sustain us as we confront evil that keeps us or others from living freely as our true selves. Where any social norm or power imbalance limits our possibilities for thriving, may we be a witness to Christ, pursuer of justice for all your people. Amen.

May the God of Transfigurations, Transfigure us so we may appear to each other as the full Image of God.
May the Transfigured Christ help us to break all the boundaries that keep us from living into the fullness of God’s unyielding Grace and Love.
May the Queer Spirit of God dislodge all binaries, disrupt all hierarchies, and destroy all tyrannies.
Amen.
Sending Song
“Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee” – Words: Henry VanDyke
- Joyful, joyful, we adore thee,
God of glory, Lord of love;
hearts unfold like flowers before thee,
opening to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;
drive the dark of doubt away.
Giver of immortal gladness,
fill us with the light of day! - All thy works with joy surround thee,
earth and heaven reflect thy rays,
stars and angels sing around thee,
center of unbroken praise.
Field and forest, vale and mountain,
flowery meadow, flashing sea,
chanting bird and flowing fountain,
call us to rejoice in thee. - Thou art giving and forgiving,
ever blessing, ever blest,
wellspring of the joy of living,
ocean depth of happy rest!
Thou Creator, Christ our brother,
all who live in love are thine;
teach us how to love each other,
lift us to the joy divine. - Mortals, join the mighty chorus
which the morning stars began;
love divine is reigning o’er us,
binding all within its span.
Ever singing, march we onward,
victors in the midst of strife;
joyful music leads us sunward,
in the triumph song of life.
