Gathering Music

“In The Name of Jesus” – Trad Praise Chorus

In the name of Jesus,
in the name of Jesus,
we have the victory
in the name of Jesus
in the name of Jesus.
Satan will have to flee.
Oh, tell me who can
Stand before us
When we call on that great name
Jesus Jesus, precious Jesus
We have the victory!

“Somebody Prayed for Me” – Dorothy Norwood

Somebody prayed for me
Had me on their mind
Took the time to pray for me
I’m so glad they prayed
I’m so glad they prayed
I’m so glad they prayed for me

…my family
…the preacher
…the Drewids

Call to Worship

Leader: We gather in remembrance of Moses, the runaway adoptee, the perpetual foreigner with a speech impairment.
Group: Remind us that our full selves are what our community needs in such a time as this.
Leader: We gather in remembrance of Esther who used what privilege she had to be an advocate for victims of state-sanctioned violence.
Group: Let us pray and fast in solidarity and preparation in such a time as this.
Leader: We gather in remembrance of Jesus, who intimately knew the risks of speaking life to death-dealing systems.
Group: Help us to lean into our fear and the weight of our responsibility to Creation in such a time as this.
Leader: God of justice and righteousness, as you were at work then, we trust you to be at work today, in, through, and even despite us.
All: Let your love be revealed and your name be glorified in such a time as this.

Opening Song

“There’s a Sweet Sweet Spirit” – Doris Akers

There’s a sweet sweet Spirit in this place
And I know that it’s the Spirit of the Lord.
There are sweet expressions on each face
And I know they feel the presence of the Lord.

Sweet Holy Spirit, sweet heavenly Dove,
Stay right here with us, filling us with Your love.
And for these blessings we lift our hearts in praise.
Without a doubt we’ll know that we have been revived
When we shall leave this place.

Scripture Reading – John 12:27-28

‘Now my soul is troubled. And what should I say—“Father, save me from this hour”? No, it is for this reason that I have come to this hour. Father, glorify your name.’ Then a voice came from heaven, ‘I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.’

Leader: The Word of God for the people of God.
All: Thanks be to God.

Sending Song

“The Storm Is Passing Over” – Charles Tindley

O courage, my soul, and let us journey on,
For tho’ the night is dark, it won’t be very long.
O thanks be to God, the morning light appears,
And the storm is passing over, Hallelujah!
Refrain: Hallelujah! Hallelujah! The storm is passing over, Hallelujah!

O billows rolling high, and thunder shakes the ground,
The lightnings flash, and tempest all around,
But Jesus walks the sea and calms the angry waves,
And the storm is passing over, Hallelujah!
Refrain

The stars have disappeared, and distant lights are dim,
My soul is filled with fears, the seas are breaking in.
I hear the Master cry, “Be not afraid, ’tis I,”
And the storm is passing over, Hallelujah!
Refrain

Now soon we shall reach the distant shining shore,
Then free from all the storms, we’ll rest forevermore.
And safe within the veil, we’ll furl the riven sail,
And the storm will all be over, Hallelujah!
Refrain
