Every Wednesday we invite you to Pause & Pray with us. Today’s Pause & Pray is written/curated by Brigid Dwyer.
Pause:
Take a moment to notice something beautiful. It might not be the dreary weather here in Jersey, but it might be the daffodils that are staying with us through the cold, or the buds and blossoms on the trees. It might be something that’s been with you for a while, but you’ve gotten used to it being around. Use the special china for lunch. Plan your favorite dish for dinner tonight. The beautiful things are inside you, as well. Where have you been kind today? Where have you shone – at work, home, school? Where have you shown God’s love through your actions, or even your presence?
Pray:
O God, whose blessed Son made himself known to his disciples in the breaking of bread: Open the eyes of our faith, that we may behold him in all his redeeming work; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Reflect:
Read Luke 24:13-35
Luke 24 tells us the story of two disciples – one of whom was named Cleopas, and the other unnamed – walking from Jerusalem to Emmaus. While they were walking, a man joined them on the road. This stranger asked about the goings-on in Jerusalem, and then, after they told him what they had experienced, the stranger explained how it all made sense, given what he knew about the Hebrew Scriptures.
The two disciples then asked this stranger to stay with them and eat, before he continued on his journey. He did so, and blessed the bread and broke it, and it was then that they were able to see. And as they did, they saw that what had been told to them – that Jesus was still with them – was the Good News they had needed after all of the pain of the previous few days.
Listen. Notice. God is still making God’s presence known.
