Gathering Music
“Somebody Prayed For Me” – Dorothy Norwood
Somebody prayed for me
Had me on their mind
Took the time to pray for me
I’m so glad they prayed
I’m so glad they prayed
I’m so glad they prayed for me
…my family

Call to Worship
Grace Losso Modla
(written by Drew DMin Student Heather Williams)
Leader: Let us gather, not just bodies in and out of rhythm, but open hearts and parched souls.
All: We come away from the hunger of our world and the quick diet of productivity.
Leader: We come into the presence of the very one whose image we reflect in the world, whose voice whispers over us “beloved,” and whose Spirit reminds us once again of the sustaining power of grace in community.
All: We gather to hear, to remember, and to be filled with the nourishment of the Holy Spirit.
Opening Song
“As We Are, We Are Yours,” Words: Hannah C. Brown, Music: Mark A. Miller and Julian Wamble
Opening Prayer
Daekyung Ko
(written by Drew DMin Student Heather Williams)
Leader: Gracious God, as we make our way here bring into our awareness a hunger and a thirst that rests in the knowledge that our belovedness is not found in worth or production, it is not sustained by our endless cycle of doing but rather in finding ourselves swept up by the unforced rhythms of grace. You once painted me with your image, but now I dust myself for your prints. Called your beloved, we rise from baptismal waters and the ashes of vulnerability.
All: Amen.
Scripture Reading – Mark 1:9-15
Rutendo Trish Makarau
9In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. 11And a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.” 12And the Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. 13He was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on him.
14Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, 15and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.”
Leader: The Word of God for the people of God.
All: Thanks be to God.

“Home By Another Road” – Lindy Thompson, Mark A. Miller
Still worshipping
we’re on the way
As we’re headed back home
By another road
We’ll hold each other’s
Hearts this day
As we’re headed back home
By another road
Join me now, the road is wide
All God’s people, side by side
Where justice will shine
And love abide
We’re headed back home
By another road
Yes, we’re headed back home
By another road.
